Job Title:        Custodial Services Employee            Wage/Hour Status:  Non-Exempt

                       

Reports to:      Director of Maintenance & Transportation                

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To maintain the cleanliness, safety and order of the classrooms, restrooms, corridors, administrative offices, gym or auditorium and other areas of each school/building.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

  1. Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician.
  2. Ability to read basic operating instructions and write reports.
  3. Demonstrated ability for successful completion of the tasks assigned.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Dust, sweep and/or mop floors as necessary.
  2. Wash windows as needed and clean sills.
  3. Care and cleaning of the grounds.  Pick up paper and other trash.
  4. Scrub or strip and wax floors as scheduled.
  5. Clean and sanitize restroom fixtures, hardware, tile mirrors, etc.  Replace restroom supplies as needed.  This includes dressing rooms.
  6. Set up chairs, tables, stands, benches, etc. for school meetings, games, dances and other events.
    1. Report any damage to school property and report maintenance needs.
    2. Replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
    3. Follow schedule and do the things that appear on it.
    4. Load and unload supplies and equipment.
    5. Assist in maintenance work if needed.
    6. Do any minor miscellaneous maintenance work that is needed.
    7. Sweep exterior walks.
    8. Relieve, assist, or fill in temporarily on other jobs as assigned by supervisor.
    9. Know location and proper care and use of all firefighting equipment.
    10. Responsible for the security of rooms and buildings, being sure all students are out of the buildings, lights are off, windows closed and locked, doors locked, rooms and building checked for fire hazards.
      1. May be assigned split shifts, day shifts or night shifts.
      2. Work for maintenance during summer months.
      3. Responsible for heat and ventilation – report any troubles or problems.
      4. Properly care for tools and equipment.
      5. Demonstrate the ability to follow directions and take orders.
      6. Get along with teachers, students, other school personnel and the public.
      7. Always be neat in personal appearance.
      8. Believe in our schools and help the teachers to their jobs better.
      9. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
        1. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Moderate to heavy physical demands, exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.  Requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling at all times.  Requires near and midrange vision, talking, hearing, repetitive movement of wrists, arms and hands.
